British/Nigerian Grime Artist Skepta a.k.a. Joseph Junior Adenunga, born in Tottenham North London, Skepta’s parents immigrated to the UK from Nigeria, is a grime artist, rapper, songwriter and producer. Most famous for his grime genre raps, which are full of self-aggrandizement and anti-establishment context. Skepta adds yet another accolade to his achievements - Chief. The grime artist was recently presented with his Chieftaincy title in his parents home of Ogun State, Nigeria. He will be referred to as “Amuludun of Odo Aje,” which translates to “Chief Entertainer of Odo Aje.” “Chieftain titles are given in recognition of a positive contribution to community wellbeing – which Skepta’s done through entertainment,” writes BBC News. The musician has spent a lot of time in the country, and has performed at shows and festivals in the area.

His influence as a key grime artist on the British popular culture earned him a position on Debrett's 2017 list of the most influential people in the UK. He shot to fame in the grime scene after he won an MC battle where over 300 people contested. He became popular throughout Greater London with his hit single “Private Caller”. He has achieved widespread recognition despite remaining an independent artist.

Skepta draws big crowds at festivals and events globally. In spite of being a celebrity, he seems to be a down-to-earth person moving around with no security guards, as he does not like the idea of security guards pushing people away from him. A strong believer in the concept of togetherness, he upholds that getting in touch with one’s own life purpose is important to achieve success.
